White Pine School, Tennessee

At White Pine School, 29 students were directly involved with an energy education project and a total of 850 students were reached through energy education outreach activities and events. The students created 125 pounds of compost from lunchroom waste and recycled a combined total of 159 pounds of hair and hosiery to help in Gulf Oil Spill clean-up efforts. They also reduced the school lunchroom’s use of Styrofoam lunch trays by 750 on an average day. In total, the students recycled 240 pounds of aluminum, 2,250 pounds of tin cans, 18,000 pounds of plastics, 37,500 pounds of cardboard, 60,000 pounds of paper, 8500 chip bags, 240 ink jet cartridges, 2 laptops, 23 cell phones, 4 small electronics, 1,800 juice pouches, 100 Elmer’s glue sticks, 1,000 candy wrappers, and 28 Scotch tape dispensers.
