To (Your Mayor or Town Manager):

(Your School) is participating in a very exciting green educational opportunity that will educate children on how simple eco-decisions, like selection of waste-free snacks and drinks, can impact the future health of our planet. National Green Week 2011 hopes to reach nearly two million students at 3000 schools from states across the country. (Your School) has chosen the week of (dates) to particpate.

I am requesting that (Your town/city) demonstrates its support of our students by encouraging town/city employees to bring waste-free lunches to work during National Green Week 2011. If you could please ask your employees to pack waste-free lunches i.e. with reusable drink and food containers during this week, in support of the school, I would greatly appreciate it.

National Green Week Overview

  • During the week prior to their green week, students will be pre-weighing their daily snack trash.
  • During their designated Green Week students will bring in waste-free snacks and drinks in reusable snack and drink containers
  • Students will weigh their classroom waste daily during your green week and will compare the weight to the pre-weight total.
  • We are encouraging parents to bring in waste-free lunches to work this week in support of the program.
  • (Your town) employees are requested to bring in waste-free lunches to work this week in support of the students.
  • After their National Green Week 2011, the school will tally the results of the experiment. Nationwide totals will be posted on the National Green Week website.
  • The Green Education Foundation would like to survey the town employees to determine feedback on the waste-free lunch program. I will be sending a link to this survey, please take a moment to answer their questions.

If you can spare a few minutes to watch the Fisher video on the homepage of http://www.nationalgreenweek.com/ then you will quickly see what we are trying to accomplish with the children during National Green Week 2011.

I would like to personally thank you for informing your staff of this opportunity to support our students in becoming environmental stewards.

Sincerely,
Principal Name
