GEF Institute, a division of Green Education Foundation (GEF), is a virtual classroom established to meet increasing market demand for sustainability focused courses. The Institute builds on GEF's expertise in K-12 sustainability education and STEM concepts by offering affordable courses and certificates in sustainability to educators, students at the high school and undergraduate level, and professionals. Many of the Institute's courses are available for professional development or academic credit.Overview
GEF Institute certificates are comprised of online education that provides big picture analysis and local application of important concepts around sustainability. Earning a certificate boosts credibility in the workplace, and provides the foundational knowledge for successful sustainability initiatives or behavior change campaigns. Certificate requirements are completed entirely online and are self-paced. Some certificates are eligible for professional development or academic credit.Ideal for those seeking a well-rounded overview of sustainability, this certificate is comprised of the online course Introduction to Sustainability. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete online, at your own pace.
This certificate denotes a high level understanding of today's primary sustainability issues and human's ecological footprint. It is comprised of the online course Core Concepts in Sustainability. To earn this certificate, participants must also complete the online course Introduction to Sustainability. It takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete all certificate requirements online, at your own pace.
This certificate denotes a robust and comprehensive understanding of sustainability concepts. To earn this certificate, participants must complete the online courses Introduction to Sustainability, Core Concepts in Sustainability and Advanced Concepts in Sustainability. Upon completion, participants can earn 1.5 CEUs and 1 academic credit from the Institute's partnering university. It takes approximately 15 hours to complete all the certificate requirements online, at your own pace.
This specialty certificate includes an emphasis on teaching methods and curriculum integration for educators looking to enhance their teaching of sustainability concepts or to broaden their application of STEM skills in the classroom. To earn this certificate, you must complete the online courses Introduction to Sustainability, Core Concepts in Sustainability, and K-12 Sustainability Education Strategies. Online Certification Course for Career Tech Students
The self-paced, 15-hour online course is designed to equip students with a strong foundational knowledge of sustainability, the science and technology of promoting sustainability, and the balance between environmental, social and economic concerns. The course incorporates hands-on activities, readings, assessments, videos, discussion forums, and more. Students earn the certification by passing an online test comprised of 100 multiple choice questions.
