Availability and Distribution

Lesson Description:
This lesson can take course over 1-2 weeks of classes altogether, or teacher can choose to use just a few of the given lessons. The main purpose of this lesson is to provide students with knowledge on the availability and distribution of oil. Depending on which parts of the lesson are used, it focuses on vocabulary relating to oil distribution, challenges in the oil industry, and oil availability specific to the students' community.

Objective:

• To understand the extent and costs of our nation’s dependence on foreign sources of oil.
• To understand how our communities are affected by fuel shortages and the fluctuating availability and pricing of fuel.
• To identify fuel alternatives that now exist in the community.
• To investigate alternatives, specifically their long-term availability and social and environmental costs, as well as the safety issues involved with their extraction, processing, storage, and delivery
